Vavau-Part 1

Vavau is one of the many islands of Tonga. Ask any Tongan and they will say it is the best. It was very different from the other island we were on, because it had hills and it was a bit hotter. Since we were in Tonga already, I really wanted to see Vavau, because it is always talked about. I was glad we did. We were there for only a few days, however that was enough. We stayed in this backpackers hostel and it was quiet hot and miserable. I was glad for the cold showers.
On our first day we talked to this lady who told us to go to this beach called Tongan Beach. She said it was the best. It was too. The beaches there are very rocky and this was not.
A typical beach there. Still pretty, just not so friendly on the feet.Tongan Beach
The other nice thing about it was that we could rent kayaks. We did that both times we went to this beach. It was perfect for swimming and it even had lounge chairs, which was nice, because Adona usually needed to sleep while we were there. We saw a lot of fish and starfish throughout the whole island, but this was the first place noticing the blue starfish.

Dave was lucky and able to scuba dive, I of course could not go. I was kind of sad, but not too concerned until our camera battery died just before he went. So I didn't get to see anything that he did. That was sad. He had a lot of fun, but he had problems with his ears. My parents and one brother went with him on the boat and just enjoyed the time seeing different things. While they were doing that we toured the island. It was interesting to see. It was very different from the other island, but so beautiful. It was fun to have Semisi pointing out people's houses that I knew from school. We stopped to look at the lake that is in the middle of one of the islands. Semisi said that it was not salted, so that was kind of interesting. While we were driving we saw this guy on his horse, only at the time there were like 5 other kids on the horse with him. It was so funny, that we made Semisi go take a picture, but the kids were already off. I still love this picture though. If you notice the guy has a machete in his hand. They totally loved posing for the camera.
